One of my favorite things to do is discover new music artists online. The music world is as diverse as it has ever been in 2023. In this day and age, you can find artists making music that will satisfy any of your tastes. An artist I recently discovered who needs more recognition is Edward III. Edward III is a new artist who is from Illinois and went to school in the Milwaukee area, and he is someone I think more people need to watch. Edward III started posting music online in late 2022; he has already been gaining some local traction, as his music has been featured on Milwaukee’s 88.9 Radio station. He has stated that his biggest inspiration in music is Diplo. This is because Diplo is a diverse artist who has had his hand in many different projects. If one looked into Diplo’s entire catalog, one would be shocked at how many kinds of music he has helped create over the years. Diplo is a great artist to draw inspiration from, as he proves musicians can have no boundaries in what they want to make. If Edward III can shape his career around the way Diplo has shaped his own career, he can end up being an exciting and successful artist.
As I mentioned, Edward III began posting his music online in late 2022. He released four songs at the end of 2022 and has released one track so far in 2023. Even though his catalog is brief, it is easy to see that he has a ton of talent and has very eclectic takes. Every one of these tracks has a different sound that can appeal to a different kind of music fan. Similar to Diplo, it is apparent that Edward III wants to appeal to a wide range of people. All five of these songs have high quality and are worth listening to, but there are two in particular that I would like to talk about. ‘So Few Things’ is a song that takes inspiration from the Emo Trap HyperPop music that has become popular over the last couple of years. In particular, this song makes me think of artists like brakence or Lil Xtra. The song has a sweet, catchy Emo Rock riff that has a nostalgic feeling. One of my favorite things about the track is the distortion on the guitar in the hook. The distortion on the guitar in the chorus gives the track so much texture and intensity. I also love the drops that come in after the hook. These drops are super tough and provide so much energy. Because of these drops, I can imagine that ‘So Few Things’ would be fun to listen to live. The other song that I want to single out is ‘The Wind.’ This track is aptly named, as this track makes me feel like I am floating. It has an airy, light, and bright melody that has a Heavenly quality. I really enjoy the distortion put on the synths on this track. These distorted synths remind me of one of my favorite producers, Flume. Even though this song is brief, it packs a punch. The distortion on the synths creates a cool juxtaposition with the song’s low-key beat and pleasant melody. ‘The Wind’ has a very cool concept that I hope Edward III explores more in the future because it truly stands out. With these tracks and the three others Edward III has put out so far, he has proven that is a talented and unique artist that has unlimited potential. Edward III is someone who has everything it takes to make it big, and I am excited to keep following him and see what he does next.
